Privacy Policy

The International Organization for Migration (“IOM”, “we” or “us”) has adopted this privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) applicable to the Counter-Trafficking Data Collaborative located at https://www.ctdatacollaborative.org/ (the “CTDC”).

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. This Privacy Policy informs each user (“User” or “you”) how we collect, use and share the information we obtain from and about you. Please note that we are not responsible for the content or privacy practices on any web site and/or mobile application not owned and operated by IOM to which CTDC may link or that links to CTDC.

In addition, please review our Terms and Conditions of Use (the “Terms and Conditions”), which govern your access to and use of CTDC.

A. Information We Collect

I. Personal Information

You can browse the CTDC websites without revealing any personal information.

If you wish so, you can voluntarily provide certain personal information to CTDC, namely your e-mail address, the organisation type you work for and the country you live in. IOM may use this personal information for the purposes specified in section B of this Privacy Policy.

Any voluntarily provided personal information of you collected, received, used, transferred, or stored by IOM will be protected by strict conditions of confidentiality and security at all stages of data collection and processing in line with the IOM Data Protection Principles. IOM will not use the personal information for other purpose than outlined in this Privacy Policy and will not sell, distribute or rent personal information collected.

II. Monitoring Website Traffic and Cookies

IOM monitors general trends in the use of CTDC websites of all Users, including the number of downloads of the Global Dataset by Users. IOM uses the information to generate statistics and measure CTDC's activity in order to improve the usefulness of CTDC, in particular with regard to the usefulness of datasets and documents available to download.

Monitoring CTDC traffic includes the use of cookies, small bits of code stored on the Users computer's hard drive. When the Users visit CTDC, some information are collected, such as the site that referred the Users to IOM, Users’ IP address, browser and the type of machine Users are using, as well as navigational information such as the files Users download, the pages they visit, and the dates/times of those visits.
Users are free to decline cookies if the browser permits, although in that case Users may not be able to use certain features on CTDC and may be required to re-enter information more frequently to use certain services on CTDC.

B. Use of Information

We may use the personal information provided by Registered Users to administer CTDC and help diagnose technical problems. We may use third party partners to help operate CTDC, and may share this personal information with our service providers that help maintain CTDC. Your personal information may also be analyzed so that we can provide you with useful information and can serve you in the best manner possible through enhanced features and functions on CTDC. We may use your personal information to contact you regarding changes to CTDC, or communications associated with your use of CTDC.

We may disclose aggregate statistics regarding Users’ behavior as a measure of interest in, and use of, CTDC to third parties in the form of aggregate data, such as overall patterns or demographic reports that do not describe or identify any individual User.

IOM preserves the right to maintain and share your information with third parties if IOM is of the opinion that this is necessary to prevent death or immediate bodily harm to you or others, or comply with or prevent violations of international law.

C. Data Security

IOM commits to make reasonable efforts to protect the confidentiality and security of your personal information, including from loss, misuse or alteration. IOM cannot ensure or warrant the security of any personal information you transmit to us or CTDC. IOM is not liable for any breach of our systems or interception of our transmission, and disclaims, any liability associated with any breach of security or data.

D. Right to request, change and delete personal information

If you have provided voluntarily personal information to us, you have the right to request a copy of your personal information and to update the personal information that you have supplied. You can request us to

  • correct or update your personal information;
  • delete your personal information.

If you chose to request a deletion of your personal information, the personal information will be deleted from our files and we will only keep aggregated data for statistical reasons.

E. Revisions to this Policy

IOM reserve the right to revise and change this Privacy Policy at any time.

F. Status of IOM

Nothing in this Privacy Policy affects the privileges and immunities enjoyed by IOM as an intergovernmental organization.
