Historically, it has been difficult to make data on human trafficking readily accessible to analysts, academics, practitioners and policy-makers. Data on human trafficking are often highly sensitive raising a range of privacy and civil liberty concerns where the risk of identifying data subjects can be high and the consequences severe.

It is widely recognized that one of the foremost challenges in developing targeted counter-trafficking responses and measuring their impact is the lack of reliable, high-quality information. Data on human trafficking are often highly sensitive, raising a range of privacy and civil liberty concerns where the risk of identifying data subjects can be high and the consequences severe.

For the first time, CTDC leverages modern technology to overcome these obstacles allow unprecedented public access to the world’s largest datasets on human trafficking. Bringing together global data in one platform will strengthen and empower local, national and international institutions to eradicate crimes of trafficking and exploitation.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership.

The CTDC team actively contributes to the attainment of relevant goals by supplying EU organizations with data on human trafficking.

The GCM (Global Compact for Migration) is the first-ever intergovernmentally negotiated UN agreement on a common approach to managing international migration. The GCM defines 23 objectives covering all aspects of migration (“360-degree” approach) with an array of possible actions, drawn from best practice, that States may choose to utilise to implement their national migration policies. While not legally binding, the GCM’s guiding principles, objectives and actions find their root in established obligations and principles, underpinned by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and international law.

The CTDC project contributes to the achievement of the 1st (DATA) and 10th (EDUCATE TRAFFICKING) objectives of the GCM, following the principles set out for them.
