Victims exploited in agriculture account for around 33 per cent of victims trafficked for forced labour.

Demographic characteristics

Victims exploited in agriculture are mostly males (76%), and 56 per cent are adults aged 30 or older. 10 per cent of victims exploited in agriculture are children. 68 per cent of these victims originate in Central America, 21 per cent originate in Eastern Europe and five per cent in Central Asia.

Trafficking experience

78 per cent of victims exploited in agriculture are exploited in North America, and some others are exploited in Eastern Europe (15%) and Central Asia (2%). Most of these victims are exploited outside their region of origin (85%). These victims are mainly controlled with threats (77%), as well as debt bondage and withheld wages (66%).[1] 89 per cent of these victims are recruited by ‘others’,[2] and are trafficked for less than a year (44%) or between one and two years (35%).
