Domestic trafficking: victim profiles

Around 40 per cent of registered victims are trafficked within their country of citizenship, while the remainder are trafficked internationally.[1] Over time, international trafficking predominates, although it was exceeded by domestic trafficking between 2008 and 2013.[2]

Female victims (53%) are more frequently trafficked within their country of citizenship, while international trafficking is broadly more common among male victims (62%).

Adult victims (56%) are almost two times more likely to be trafficked internationally as compared to children (32%). Meanwhile, 68 per cent of child victims and 44 per cent of adult victims are trafficked within their country of citizenship.

[1] Domestic trafficking involves victims trafficked within their country of origin, while international trafficking occurs when victims cross international borders.
